1. Our commitment
K12PhoneSystems.com is meant to be readable and usable by everyone who works on school phone systems, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, voice control, magnification, captions or other assistive technology, and people with visual, hearing, motor, cognitive or learning disabilities.
Accessibility is an ongoing practice and not a one-time project. We review the website as content and design change, and we fix problems when we find them or when you tell us about them.
2. The standard we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. We say "aim" on purpose: the website was reviewed by its own team in October 2026 but has not yet been through an independent accessibility audit, so we do not claim full conformance. If you find something that falls short, we want to hear about it.
3. What we have done
- Structure. Pages use meaningful headings, with one main heading per page, and standard landmarks for the header, navigation, main content and footer. A "Skip to main content" link is the first item on each page.
- Keyboard. The menu, links, buttons and form are built from standard elements so that they can be used with a keyboard. We style keyboard focus on form fields and buttons, and we are checking that every interactive element shows it clearly.
- Text and images. The illustrations carry text alternatives, and purely decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology. The research papers are written as ordinary text, not as images of text, with numbered sections, a contents list at the top, and linked citations.
- Tables. Tables are real tables with header cells. On small screens each row turns into a list of labeled values so that it can be read without side-scrolling.
- Forms. Every field of the contact form has a visible label, and required fields are marked. Messages tell you when something is missing.
- Color and contrast. The design uses dark text on a light background, and light text on dark blue bands. We use color as decoration and emphasis, and we do not rely on color alone to convey meaning.
- Motion. The few animations on the website, such as the drawing of the route on the home page, are decorative and add nothing you need in order to understand the content. They are turned off when your device is set to "reduce motion."
- Zoom and small screens. Layouts adapt to phones and tablets, and content stays usable when you enlarge text or zoom the page.
- Language. Pages are written in plain English, and technical terms are explained when they first appear.
4. Forms and contact

5. Downloads and documents
The free District Phone System Assessment worksheet is a fillable PDF. We have not yet verified that it meets the PDF accessibility standard (PDF/UA), and some people may find it difficult with a screen reader. If you need the worksheet in another format, such as a plain-text or large-print version or an accessible form, ask us and we will supply one where we reasonably can.
The research papers are published as web pages. Documents we link to, such as government regulations, vendor manuals and procurement documents, belong to other organizations and may not be fully accessible.
6. Third-party sites and tools
The website links to other sites and to documents on other sites. We do not control their accessibility. The website's typefaces are stored on the site itself. If they fail to load, the site falls back to standard fonts and the text stays readable.
7. Known limitations
We are aware of these issues and are working on them.
- Typefaces. Some short labels and notes use a handwriting-style typeface for character. Some readers find it harder to read. It is never used for the main text of the papers or for form fields. Parts of the site use a monospaced typeface for body text, which some people find less comfortable to read than a proportional one; the research papers use a standard serif face for body text.
- Background lines. The ruled-paper pattern behind some pages is decorative and low-contrast, and we keep it light so that it does not interfere with text. Tell us if it troubles you.
- Animated diagrams. The home page's emergency-call diagram and the route that draws itself in the hero illustration are visual aids with text alternatives. They are not designed to be read as step-by-step content by assistive technology, so the surrounding text carries the full explanation.
- The worksheet. See section 5.
- Charts. The one chart on the website, in the cost paper, is an image with a full text description, and the same figures are in a table beside it. It scrolls sideways inside its frame on very small screens.

9. How quickly we respond
We aim to reply within three business days. If we can fix the problem quickly, we will. If it will take longer, we will tell you what we are doing and, where we can, give you the information in another way in the meantime.
10. Continuing improvement
We plan to test the website with assistive technology, review new content before it is published, and arrange an independent accessibility review. When we complete one, we will update this statement with the date and scope.
11. Your rights
This statement does not limit any rights you have under accessibility laws. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the agency that handles accessibility complaints where you live.
